Depending on the time, we will dive straight into the heart of Catania, brimming with history and culture. A private transport will take us to our chosen hotel. Once settled, our guide will lead us through the historic center, showcasing architectural wonders such as the Cathedral of Sant'Agata and the Roman amphitheater. As we explore, we'll feel the energy of the bustling streets and Catania's unique atmosphere. The day will end with dinner at a local restaurant, where we'll have the chance to savor local specialties. Overnight in Catania. Day 2: Ragusa Ibla - Baroque Treasures Amidst the Sicilian Hills After breakfast, we'll head to Ragusa Ibla, the ancient heart of Ragusa, located on a hill amid deep and picturesque valleys. This gem, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, stands as an open-air museum. As we stroll through paved streets, magical squares, and monumental staircases, it will feel like stepping back in time. We'll admire baroque palaces adorned with intricately carved stone details and imposing churches that speak of an era's art and architecture. It's easy to get lost in Ibla's beauty, where every corner, flowered balcony, and courtyard tells a story of elegance and magnificence. The evening will offer us the freedom to choose our dinner spot, catering to our culinary desires. We then continue to Ragusa, check into our hotel, and end with dinner and an overnight stay. Day 3: Modica and Scicli - Between Chocolate Delights and Baroque Splendors After breakfast, we'll explore Modica, a stunning example of Sicilian baroque. Wandering its hilly streets, picturesque views, grand palaces, and majestic churches will unfold. We'll stop at the Church of San Pietro, with its captivating staircase adorned with statues depicting the apostles. But Modica's allure isn't just its architecture: it's also famous for its chocolate. In this city, the chocolate retains an ancient flavor, produced using methods inherited from the Aztecs and introduced to Sicily by the Spanish. We'll indulge in tasting this unique chocolate, perhaps in one of the city's historic chocolateries. In the afternoon, our adventure will continue to Scicli, a city that seems to emerge from the rock itself, with homes nestled among the hills and a historic center that celebrates baroque at every turn. We'll walk along cobbled streets, admiring grand mansions and churches that rise in a wondrous ballet of stuccoes, balconies, and intricate facades. Scicli will tell stories of a distant Sicily, of art and culture in every stone. At the end of the day, we'll return to Ragusa, where a traditional dinner awaits, allowing us to fully savor the island's flavors. Overnight in Ragusa. Day 4: Noto - The Golden Heart of Sicilian Baroque After breakfast, we'll set off to discover magnificent Noto, often hailed as the "Capital of Baroque." Its streets transform into an open-air gallery of baroque architecture, with buildings shimmering in a soft golden hue under the Sicilian sun. We'll visit the Church of Santa Chiara, admiring its richly decorated facade, and the Palazzo Ducezio, the current town hall, bearing witness to the city's ancient grandeur and power. However, undoubtedly, the heart of Noto is its Cathedral, a majestic testament to baroque art. After immersing ourselves in the baroque aesthetics, we'll head to Siracusa. Upon arrival and checking into our selected hotel, we'll have the opportunity to relax, and in the evening, indulge in a traditional Sicilian dinner. Overnight in Siracusa. Day 5: Siracusa - Magic Among Ancient Stones and Sea We'll begin the day diving into the archaeological area of Neapolis, guardian of centuries of history. Here, we'll admire the grand Greek Theater, which still serves as a stage for theatrical performances, and the Roman Amphitheater. It will be fascinating to discover the Ear of Dionysius, a cave renowned for its unique acoustic properties. After these ancient world encounters, we'll head to the Island of Ortigia, the historical soul of Siracusa. The beauty of the Cathedral will leave us breathless, especially considering it stands on what was once a Greek temple dedicated to Athena. Nearby, the Temple of Apollo unveils even more of Siracusa's ancient roots, while the Fonte Aretusa, with its papyrus and enveloping mythology, will bring a touch of magic to our tour. Strolling through Ortigia's cobbled streets, we'll soak up the atmosphere of Siracusa, a city where different eras intertwine in harmonious dialogue. The evening will end at a local restaurant, where we'll taste the specialties of Sicilian cuisine. Overnight in Siracusa. Day 6: Relax in Siracusa or The Charm of Marzamemi Today, we'll have the option to choose how best to spend our day. If we feel the need for a break, we can indulge in a day of complete relaxation in Siracusa, perhaps leisurely exploring its more secluded corners or taking a break in one of its historic cafés. However, if the desire to discover new horizons should prevail, we could head to Marzamemi (Optional excursion cost approx. € 69.00), a seaside village where time seems to have stopped. Immersed in the charm of this fishing village, we'll walk among pastel-colored houses and boats gently rocked by harbor waters. In the maze of alleys, every square will reveal the authentic essence of genuine Sicily. And since Marzamemi is famous for its tuna tradition, why not enjoy a tasting of bluefin tuna products? In the evening, whether in Siracusa or Marzamemi, we'll dine in one of the local restaurants, savoring the flavors of the island. Overnight in Siracusa. Day 7: Discovering Palazzolo Acreide and the Ceramic Art of Caltagirone After breakfast, we'll head to Palazzolo Acreide. This enchanting town, tucked away amidst the green Sicilian hills, will surprise us with its historic center where baroque art dominates every corner. We'll walk along ancient cobblestone streets, admiring ornate palaces and churches that bear the marks of time. We can't miss visiting the Greek Theatre, a silent testament to the ancient roots of this place. In the afternoon, we'll make our way to Caltagirone, a city renowned for its ceramic tradition. In front of the Staircase of Santa Maria del Monte, with its 142 steps embellished with ceramic tiles, we'll be left breathless. Each step, each color, narrates the story of an ancient art, born from the passion of ceramic masters. As we lose ourselves in the city's streets, we'll stop at artisanal workshops, watching the artists at work and, perhaps, even choose a piece to take with us as a reminder of this journey. In the evening, we'll return to Catania. After settling in, we'll treat ourselves to one last Sicilian dinner, tasting the delicacies of this captivating island. Overnight in Catania. Day 8: Goodbye, Sicily! Our journey is coming to an end, but Sicily has left an indelible mark on our hearts.
