Cyclops Coast — Boat Excursion from Catania

Cruise along the Cyclops Coast from Catania, admiring Aci Castello, Aci Trezza's Faraglioni and volcanic shoreline, with sailing subject to sea conditions.

Highlights

  • Aci Trezza's Faraglioni
  • Aci Castello from the Sea
  • Scenic Two-Hour Cruise

Overview

Discover the volcanic coastline north of Catania on a scenic boat excursion across the Riviera dei Ciclopi. Depart from the Ognina harbour area and follow the coast towards Aci Castello, where a medieval castle stands on a dramatic lava-rock outcrop above the sea. Continue to Aci Trezza and its famous Faraglioni, black volcanic sea stacks celebrated in local mythology and Sicilian literature. Depending on the captain's route and conditions, the vessel may continue towards Capo Mulini before returning to Catania. The landscape offers an accessible introduction to eastern Sicily's relationship with the sea and Etna's geology. The excursion is operated by a licensed local boat provider, with vessel type, shared or private arrangement and passenger capacity confirmed before booking. No dolphin sighting, swimming stop or special marine activity is guaranteed in the standard programme.

The geological identity of this coastline is clearly visible from the boat: lava-rock formations, dark sea stacks and small fishing settlements form the dramatic setting of the Riviera dei Ciclopi. The Faraglioni at Aci Trezza are particularly distinctive and connected with the local tradition of the Cyclops legend. A short marine excursion is an enjoyable complement to a stay in Catania without requiring hotel transfers or a full day's travel.
