Etna Wine Experience — Vineyard Visit from Catania

Discover the wine landscapes of Mount Etna on a private excursion from Catania, with a selected winery visit and tasting of local volcanic wines, subject to confirmation.

Highlights

  • Discover Etna's Wine Country
  • Visit a Selected Winery
  • Taste Etna Wines

Overview

Discover the remarkable wine culture of Mount Etna on a private excursion from Catania into the vineyard landscape of the volcano's northern or eastern slopes. Travel through villages and terraces shaped by generations of winegrowing, where volcanic soils and contrasting elevations have contributed to some of Sicily's most distinctive wines. At a selected winery, learn about the estate's vines, growing conditions and production approach, then enjoy a guided tasting of local labels when the partner's programme is confirmed. Grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese and Carricante provide a useful introduction to Etna's red and white wine traditions, although the actual wines poured will depend on the estate. The itinerary focuses on viticulture rather than high-altitude crater excursions. Private return transport is planned; a winery visit and standard tasting will form part of the package only after the partner and tasting menu have been agreed, with no unverified promise of a specific estate, number of wines or lunch.

Etna's wines tell the story of a landscape shaped by volcanic material, temperature differences and the care of local growers. An estate visit can introduce the distinctions between vineyards at different elevations and the reasons local grape varieties are closely linked to the territory. To maintain a credible experience, Great Sicily will quote the tasting actually offered by a confirmed winery rather than advertising an arbitrary number of labels or a promised premium pairing.

Insider tip
Nerello Mascalese and Carricante are two helpful reference grapes for understanding Etna wines, but do not expect a fixed tasting flight before the winery is selected. Avoid scheduling another wine tasting immediately after the return drive.
Accessibility
Winery tasting rooms and vineyard paths may have steps or gravel surfaces. Step-free access and adapted facilities must be confirmed with the selected estate.
What to bring
Comfortable shoes suitable for vineyard paths, light layer for cooler slopes, drinking water, photo ID where required for alcohol service and notification of any food allergies.
Important information
Approximate six-hour private experience, with estate, tasting content and host to be confirmed. All services require final supplier and date confirmation.
