Overview
Explore one of the Madonie’s most striking natural settings on a group excursion from Cefalù. The Gole di Tiberio were carved into limestone by the Pollina River, creating a narrow river canyon with towering rock walls, unusual formations and a sense of seclusion.
After the journey inland, meet the local activity team and receive the required equipment and safety instructions. The core experience is a guided crossing of the gorge in an inflatable boat. Depending on the season and river conditions, the programme may also include a walk along the riverbanks to observe rock formations, plants and the surrounding landscape. Any opportunity to enter the water or reach natural pools depends entirely on local conditions and the guide’s judgement.
The visit includes appropriate helmets, hygienic caps and life jackets and, when required, the local shuttle between the gorge and the agreed transfer point. The activity operates only when the river and weather allow safe access; the route and exact duration are confirmed by the supplier before the group departure.

- Leave phones and other sensitive items in waterproof protection; the changing light within the limestone gorge is one of the experience’s most memorable features.
- Accessibility
- Access involves uneven ground, walking near the river and possibly steps or slopes. Participation requires boarding an inflatable boat. Not suitable for guests requiring step-free access; specific mobility and health conditions must be assessed in advance.
- What to bring
- Water shoes or sturdy non-slip footwear suitable for wet river terrain, swimwear, a towel, dry change of clothes, sun protection, drinking water and waterproof protection for valuables.
- Important information
- Allow approximately 5.5 hours in total from Cefalù and back, including road transfers, the agreed local access or shuttle arrangements and the approximately 3-hour Tiberio Gorges activity. The PDF's 3 hours refers to the on-site experience. River access and inflatable-boat operation depend on water levels, weather and the operator's safety decisions; the final pickup and timing must be checked before quotation.
