Segesta, Erice & Salt Pans — Private Tour from Palermo

Discover Segesta's ancient temple, medieval Erice and the coastal salt pans of Trapani on a private full-day excursion from Palermo.

Highlights

  • Segesta's Doric Temple
  • Medieval Erice
  • The Trapani Salt Pans

Overview

Travel through western Sicily's layers of history and landscapes on a private day excursion from Palermo. Begin at Segesta, where a remarkable Doric temple stands in the rolling countryside. Explore the accessible park, remembering that the ancient theatre sits further uphill and may require additional site transport. Continue to the medieval town of Erice, high above the western coast. Its stone lanes, churches and panoramic viewpoints offer views across Trapani and towards the Egadi Islands on clear days. After a self-funded lunch, descend to the salt pans near Trapani, a landscape of shallow basins, historic windmills and seasonal salt-making traditions. The salt-pan stop is mainly scenic, with any museum or specialist tour treated as optional. This route allows a varied full day without promising included entrance tickets, a licensed guide or guaranteed access to every monument.

The day's progression from Segesta's ancient landscape to Erice's hilltop streets and the working coastal salt pans offers three very different perspectives on western Sicily. Your time at each stop is designed around the site's setting rather than an unrealistic succession of paid monument visits. The tour also offers opportunities to appreciate regional food traditions independently, including Erice's celebrated local pastry shops.
