Mozia, Marsala Wine & Erice – Day Trip from Trapani

Explore the Phoenician heritage of Mozia, Marsala's wine traditions and medieval Erice on a guided excursion from Trapani, combining the Stagnone Lagoon, Sicilian cuisine and scenic hilltop streets.

Highlights

  • Phoenician Mozia
  • Marsala's Wine Traditions
  • Medieval Erice

Overview

Travel from Trapani through three distinctive landscapes of western Sicily: the historic salt pans of the Stagnone Lagoon, the wine country around Marsala and the medieval streets of Erice.

Begin near the lagoon, where shallow waters, salt basins and traditional windmills reflect the region's long maritime history. From an authorised embarkation point, cross by boat to Mozia, the island of San Pantaleo, where the remains of a Phoenician settlement and the Whitaker Museum reveal Sicily's ancient connections with the Mediterranean world. Boat and admission arrangements must be specified in the confirmed proposal.

Continue towards Marsala, internationally known for its winemaking traditions. Discover the town's wine heritage, with a winery visit and tasting subject to the supplier and services confirmed for the excursion. Enjoy the Sicilian lunch included in the package, with the exact restaurant, menu and beverages set out in the travel arrangements.

The excursion then reaches Erice, perched above Trapani. Walk through its stone streets and historic squares and admire panoramic views towards the coastline and Egadi Islands, weather permitting.

Return to Trapani after a day combining archaeology, food and wine and medieval heritage. The proposed sequence requires careful timing and must be checked against the group size, boat timetable and the duration sold.

Good to know

Insider tip
Erice is known for traditional almond sweets and genovesi pastries. The Stagnone Lagoon is especially picturesque when the salt pans and windmills can be viewed in good light. Additional tastings and purchases are optional unless expressly included.
Accessibility
The boat boarding arrangements for Mozia, uneven archaeological paths and the steps and cobbled streets of Erice can be challenging for people with reduced mobility. Step-free access and adapted transport must be confirmed individually before booking.
What to bring
Comfortable walking shoes for Mozia's archaeological paths and Erice's cobblestones; drinking water, a hat and sun protection; seasonal layers for the breezy coastal and hilltop areas; a small day bag.
Important information
The excursion starts and ends in Trapani. The current advertised duration is approximately six hours, but the full Mozia–Marsala–Erice route, boat crossing, lunch and possible winery activities require an operational timing check before sale. Boat access to Mozia depends on weather and sailing arrangements. The inclusions of boat tickets, Mozia admissions and any winery tasting must be stated explicitly in the confirmed proposal; do not assume that transport or tasting fees are covered merely because the places are mentioned. Lunch is included according to the confirmed menu. Wine tasting participants responsible for driving should not consume alcohol.
